LETTER I.
From JOHN (?) CREEDON in PLEASANT VALLEY, PENNSYLVANIA, U.S.A. to his
sister Mrs. Catherine Sheehan and her husband Mr. Patrick Sheehan.
At the time of writing (December 30 I883) the Sheehan family was
probably resident at Burnfort, Mallow, Co. Cork.
Pleasant Valley,
December 30 I883.
My dear BrotherOin-law and sister,
I am going to let ye know that I received yer kind and welcome
letter on the twenty sixth of December and it gave us great pleasure to
here that ye are all in good health - and also we were very proud for t he
Christmas preasant you send to Willie and we all felt so thankful about the
preasant that Aunty Kate send to Willie and he is going to send her a

My dear Brother-in-law and sister I mean to inform ye and let ye
know that I amg oing tto let ye know my wife's name and where she is from.
Her name is Margaret Nolan from the County Galway. She is a first

cousin to my sister Mary's husband and she is a very good head (?!) to my
mother. She never an angery word tto her but always in good
friends. I mean to let you know that I will never be so long again
without writing to yeard I will now think about the bread I eat in the
old country and

soon again and all the little boys thinks as much of him as if
he was the President of the United States and when the (y) all come home from
work go out after supper and little Willie is great company to his
Father and Mother and also to his Grandmother after the (y) go out

Sister Kate your mother is not forgetting
you a nd about the times ye had at home. My dear sister I mean to let you
know that my mother is going to get married to a man in Pleasant Valley
and we don't know his riches. He is worth thousands of dollars but we
cannot make the match without your consent and you will write tt o us as soon
as you get this letter and let us know what is your oppenion about it.
As for my cousin Ellie Hogan - she vanted to know in the last letter
was this a good plave for the like of her. She may put confidence in me
and I will prove to her as good as a brother. This is a good place for
the like of her. There is good wages for girls. There is from IO
shillings to I2s per week and according to how S he will be liked her
wages will be raised a nd if she wants to come out in the spring
