Bill Boggs, Redwoods, California, to James Williamson, San Jose, California, [24 June 1860]
Description
Photocopied ms., not transcribed; no notes except the following. Boggs is either one of William Williamson's partners or employees in the "timber trade" in the Redwoods, and this letter may have been written earlier than 1870 (but the date is mostly illegible). Boggs seems to be building roads. Asks William to send a "Masonic Magazine." Hears nearby mountain lions roar at night, and shoots many squirrels. [While no month is given, 24 June 1860 fell on a Sunday and James Williamson was in San Jose in 1859 as per his letter home of 4 December 1859, which also mentions WIlliam relocating to the Redwoods. The latter appears later in Watsonville, which suggests Redwoods lay near there and Boggs also mentions the Watsonville sawmill].
