" LI was/ surprised first at how well fathers letter is preserved and then at his good penmanship which I think is remarkable considering the lack of advantages he must have had for schooling. great credit is due to whoever saved the letter all those years. all my life father seemed to me like some one who had lived centuries before but this letter seems to bring him nearer, and show somthing of the kind of man he was. his courage, perseverance and ambition to make a home in the face of poor health and the difficulties of pioneer days, shows a character of which we might well be proud, the letter is surely a prize "
